Former football icon Mohammed Polo has cautioned against setting lofty expectations for the Black Stars following their disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The four-time Africa champions faced challenges in the opening two games of the qualifying series, recording one defeat and one draw.
The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco, deepening the teams’ woes in the qualifying series.
Before this game, Ghana had suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium last week. Felicio Milson’s strike was enough to secure maximum points for the visiting team.
“Black Stars is in a serious challenge. Ghanaians must admit that football has evolved and there are no minnows anymore. We shouldn’t think of beating any country until the game is over going forward” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM in an interview.
“The perception of being a powerhouse in African football is no more. Per what I saw against Niger, I think we have to lower expectations”
The four-time African champions will return to action in October and are set to battle it out with Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in a doubleheader.
Sudan has been impressive under the former Black Stars, recording five wins after seven games so far.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo and his charges will be aiming for a positive results when they take on Sudan next month.
